SWELLENDAM – a unique small rural town
Located in the Western Cape region of South Africa about 220 km east of Cape Town, about halfway between Cape Town and the Garden Route on the N2 National Road, one will find Swellendam an attractive small town.
There is much to see and do, places of interest and places for ‘getting away from it all’. From the significant Marloth Nature Reserve and Bontebok National Park, the Langeberg Mountains and their hiking and horse trails, fishing and boating on the Breede River, Buffeljagts Dam, and the nearby Southern Cape coast, to the historic old buildings and Drostdy Museum Complex.
Ancient oak trees line the streets in the older parts of town. Great accommodation and restaurants to suit all budgets, and not forgetting Swelllendam’s popular Fairy Sanctuary, galleries, interesting and unusual people, and other ‘Secrets of Swellendam’.
